10 year old Pomeranian

My pomeranian has been hacking alot like she has a fur ball she cant get out, she does this once in a blue moon and when it happens it takes a while for her to get over it, i am wondering what i can do to keep her from having this problem. She hasnt been in a kennel, so i dont beleive it is kennel cough, since it says it is contagious and no one has gotten it, she has a carrier that she sleeps in every now and then cause we live with my parents temporarily and they have three cats. Please tell what i should do.

Thanks,
Keri

Hi Keri,

There could be several different reasons for the coughing. One could be allergies, but a more serious problem could be heart disease. One sign of heart disease in older dogs is coughing.

The best thing to do is to have a physical exam done by a veterinarian. They can pinpoint the exact cause. Again there are many possible reasons for your dog to be coughing but seeing your vet would be best.
