$12 Million Maltese Diesby Dr. Chris
June 12, 2011 Trouble, Leona Helmsley’s Maltese has died. The dog was the richest dog in the World when it inherited $12 million after Leona Helmsley’s death. Trouble was 12 years old and lived in Sarasota, Florida. The dog will be placed beside Helmsley in the family’s mausoleum in Sleepy Hollow Cemetery in Westchester County, N.Y. The dog was blind and had numerous other health issues. The dog also had a body guard after receiving up to 30 kidnapping and death threats. Leona Helmsley was an heiress who died in 2007, the wife of Harry Helmsley who became a billionaire from hotels. She bought Trouble from a pet store after her husband died and pampered it. She made headlines when she died because instead of giving her inheritance to relatives, she gave most of her money to her dog, Trouble. Her nickname, the “Queen of Mean” shown true by giving her money to her dog and not her grandchildren. Only two grandchildren were given any money, provided that they visit their father’s grave once a year. Leona Helmsley served 18 months of prison time in the 90’s for tax evasion. Maltese dogs are small and have white silky hair. For more check out: Maltese Dog Breed Profile.
