13 year old cat not eating and weight loss

by Ian
(England)

over the weekend my 13 year old cat appers to be off his food distressed and losing weight rapidly, and going to the toilet with incrontrollable diahorea, he was last checked out a couple of months back and had a full bill of health, has he just eaten something dodgy ot is it more serious?

Hi Ian,

Sorry to hear about your cat. Normally just eating something dodgy shouldn't cause rapid weight loss. Diarrhea and not eating could be from eating something he wasn't supposed to. With rapid weight loss, not eating, and loose stool I would be worried about dehydration. I would offer lots of fresh water and canned cat food that is high in moisture.

I would also see your vet because rapid weight loss isn't normally seen with just eating garbage.

Thanks,

Dr. Chris
