Red dry chew spots on skin of pitbull terrier

Red dry chew spots on skin of pitbull terrier

I have a 1yo pitbull terrier. What can I do to stop her chewing her hind end? Have try bathing more often, have changed food, can you help?

Hi Deon,

The most important thing is to find out why she is chewing on her hind end and then treat that specifically. I assume you have already ruled out fleas. Allergies can be caused by a number of things, contact dermatitis, grass, pollen, and food.

If you have tried skin soothing shampoos and the skin is still irritated it might take a prescription anti-inflammatory to break the scratch itch cycle. See your vet for this. Finding the cause of this is much easier than always switching sampoos and food.

Continuous Rash
by: Laurie

My 3 yr old Maltese has had a rash on his stomach and hind parts for over a year. Three trips to the vet, anibiotics changing food and special shampoo has done nothing to help. Finally I tried hydrocortisone cream that I had at home for myself and it has done wonders for the rash. Who would have thought? Anyway, I continue to use the cream as needed to keep the rash gone. My vet even took scrapings to determine what it was with no luck.

My puppy had the same problem. It was diagnosed at 3 months though. His vet compared it to diaper rash in babies. It went away on it's on.
