$230,000 Executive Protection Dogby Dr. Chris
June 19, 2011 More rich people these days are buying 'Executive Protection Dogs' to help keep them, their families, and property safe. The dogs are sold by Harrison Prather who is the president of Harrison K-9 Security Services located in Aiken, S.C. According to an article by John Tierney of The New York Times, Mr. Prather used to supply only military dogs to British special forces and Navy Seal teams. Like the dog that was used in the Osama Bin Laden raid. In the article Mr. Prather said demand for these dogs has increased dramatically because they have become something of a status symbol for rich people who have it all. Plus demand is increasing all over the world, Latin American, the Middle East, and Asia. Most people pay about $50,000 for a German Shepherd dog that is certified as expert in Schutzhund (protection dog). Dogs that have won awards are much more expensive. One dog recently sold for $230,000 to a man in Minnesota. Mr. Curry, who runs Kraftwerk K9 in Rochester, Wash. says he has turned down offers of more then $200,000 for his champion dogs. They say some people justify the purchase saying it is easier buying a dog than hiring a bodyguard. Dogs are trained for 3 years in Germany before receiving additional training in America before being sold. Source: Executive Protection Dogs. To read more blog posts go here: Veterinary Blog.
