Alert: Pet Food Recall Expands (Iams, Eukanuba, Merrick)

August 5, 2010 Due to a possibility of contamination with Salmonella, Proctor & Gamble, the maker of Iams and Eukanuba pet foods, announced the recall of some products. Eukanuba Dog BG Pure, Eukanuba Dog Custom Care, Eukanuba Dog Dry Naturally Wild, Iams Veterinary Dog Formula Dry Bag, Iams Veterinary Cat Formula Dry Bags were all recalled.

Also two lots of Iams Veterinary Formula Renal food in 5.5 pound bags were recalled as well. Earlier last month, United Pet Group also announced that is was recalling some Pro-Pet Vitamins due to possible Salmonella contamination as well. For more on that see: Pro-Pet Vitamin Recall.

Merrick Pet Care, Inc. also just announced today, that it is recalling "Texas Hold'ems 10 oz bag due to a possible Salmonella contamination. The bag is labeled as "Beef Filet Squares for Dogs, and has the following numbers on the bag: Item #60016 Lot 10127, best by May 6, 2012 (See: FDA Merrick Recall)

Signs of a Salmonella in pets can range from very mild diarrhea, to severe bloody diarrhea, lethargy, vomiting, and fever. If your pet is exhibiting any of these signs, please see your veterinarian.
