Question from:Candi; Australia,
Is my guinea pig pregnant she's about maybe 3 or 4 months old & is the shape of a pregnant guinea pig only not so big can you help?
Answer: Pregnancy lasts an average of 63 days in guinea pigs. The larger the litter, the shorter the term of pregnancy, and vice versa. Pregnant females (sows) exhibit a grossly enlarged abdomen during the latter stages of pregnancy. It is not uncommon for their body weight to double during pregnancy. The time of delivery may be difficult to determine because of the relatively long gestation period and because pregnant sows do not build nests. However, the week before a sow is about to deliver a litter, a slowly widening separation of the pelvis develops just in front of the external genitalia. This separation reaches slightly more than 1 inch in the hours just before delivery. To determine if you guinea pig is pregnant besides weighing her, is to have your veterinarian take an x-ray of the abdomen. They should be able to definitely tell 20-25 days after breeding.
Question from:Marina; Bolton, Ontario.
My budgie seems to hurt its claw. She can fly okay but she cannot grab the cage with one claw. She hangs to the cage with her beak, and she is still eating and drinking, is there something else I should do?
Answer: Sorry to hear about your Budgie. Some people I know that work in a bird rescue group have in the past for birds with damaged claws is change the perch. Some things to try include putting a thicker rubber around the perch; moving the perch to along the wall, etc. Try moving the configuration of the cage around to make your budgie more comfortable.

I have a 12 year old Siamese cat that has recently been getting steroid shots for asthma and I have noticed over the past couple years she's been getting very skinny and she hardly eats anything. We have dry and canned but she'll only lick the gravy please help.
Answer:Sorry to hear about your cat. Asthma in cats can be a very difficult disease to control, and sometimes cats spend so much energy on trying to breath, they don’t take in enough calories. The most important thing you can do is to take your cat to the veterinarian and have an exam done and perhaps some diagnostics, like blood work to rule out and secondary conditions. Long term use of steroids in cats can cause problems, including an increase in the incidence of diabetes, secondary infections, behavioral changes and increased drinking and urinating. It is often better to use inhaled versions of corticosteroids if possible, which have fewer secondary side effects.

My dog won't quit throwing up and as diarrhea. Is there any home remedies that I could use to help his condition?
Answer:There are several home remedies you can try, but if your dog continues to throw up, take him to the veterinarian immediately. You could try withholding food(not water) for 24hrs. Please read me article on dog vomiting here.
