	Battle Over Dog DNA Kit Rages by Dr. Chris June 26, 2011 BioPet Vet Lab and PetSafe are in a legal battle with Mars Veterinary over dog DNA kits. Mars Veterinary was able to get a cease and desist order against PetSafe. So the PetSafe DNA test kit has to be removed from retail sale and they cannot perform any more DNA tests on dogs. These dog DNA kits allow owners of mixed breed dogs to determine their genetic background. For example if you have a mixed breed dog, they could tell you if it is part Labrador Retriever or part German Shepherd. Mars makes the "Wisdom Panel" dog DNA test kit. Mars claims that based on decades of their own research they created the swab based DNA test kit and the first and only blood based dog DNA test kit. The two rivals, BioPet and PetSafe are accused of infringing on Mars' patents for the dog DNA test kit.
