Belgian Tervuren Dog Breed Profile
Belgian Tervuren Dog
AKC Group: Herding Group The Belgian Tervuren is actually a working dog that's very obedient and intelligent. A high energy dog that needs a lot of things to keep them occupied. A great breed capable of excelling in sports, search and rescue, or herding. HistoryDogs introduced in Belgium for sheepherding were at first known as Chien de Berger Belge. In the 1800's, one strain originated at the Tervuren of Belgium town and was known to be fuss colored with black pointed hairs at the head, neck and back. Another type, a totally black-coated dog, had been bred who owns Chateau Groenendael and grew to become named the Belgian Sheepdog or Groenendael. Both of them are just color stages of the similar fundamental stock and so have related features. They, as well as the Belgian Malinois, were identified in the USA by that AKC as 3 individual breeds in 1959. Physical FeaturesThe Belgian Tervuren is slim, straight proportioned, and robust. Their pleasingly muscled bodies are dominant and proudly toted, but they're not heavy or bulky. Backs are even and the hindquarters steadily muscled. The feet are circular and straight, cat just like feet. The chests either narrow or wide, but they're quite deep and lengthen to the area of elbows. Ears of this dog are in proportion to how big the dog's head is. Their teeth close in an even or scissors bite, their noses are black. They possess a couple of little, almond shaped eyes which are black in color and also a feathered, long tail. Belgian Tervuren features a moderate to lengthy coat that includes a thick beneath layer as well as black-tipped external coat, that is straight. Added feathering develops on the neck, ruff, rump and the back of legs. The coat's base shade is fawn, gray or mahogany. PersonalityBelgian Tervuren is high energy, having a high mental ability, and quick to understand. They require a task to perform or else their boredom could become destructive to your home. They tend to be dominant over other dogs, but need to be trained well so they know that you are in control of them. Common Health ProblemsA few potential health problems include epilepsy, excessive aggressiveness, skin allergies, eye problems, excessive shyness and sometimes hip dysplasia and elbow dysplasia. Don't overfeed this breed, for they tend to become obese easily.
