Bichon Frise
History Is believed that this dog descended from the Poodle or the Water Spaniel. It is believed to have existed around the Mediterranean area as far back as 600 B.C. These dogs traveled with sailors which is how they moved from continent to continent. While considered a water dog, this dog does not mind being around water or on boats. The Bichon Frise did not arrive in America until 1955 and was not recognize by the American Kennel Club until 1973. Temperament Bichon Frise is a small lapdog that appears very similar to the Maltese but is slightly bigger. And is a very mild mannered dog and gets along well with other dogs and children. One reason why people like the Bichon Frise is because it's considered to be hypoallergenic and non-shedding. This would be a good dog to consider if you have allergies to dogs and want to minimize them. Grooming This dog requires frequent grooming with daily brushing to remove tangles and to help to keep the coat looking nice. The hair around the face you need to trim on a regular basis to prevent eye irritation. Diseases Some of the more common problems encountered in this breed include autoimmune hemolytic anemia, thrombocytopenia, liver shunts.
