Budgie tore feathers out and is bleeding

by NICOLE
(MISSOURI)

MY BUDGIE HAS TORN HER FLIGHT FEATHERS OUT AND IS BLEEDING WHAT IS THE BEST FOR ME TO DO FOR HER AND WHY DO YOU THINK SHE HAS DONE THIS I AM VERY CONCERNED THAT SHE MIGHT GET AN INFECTION OR SOMETHING I AM WORRIED PLEASE HELP ME WITH SOME ADVICE

Hi Nicole,

Budgies usually only tear feathers out if there has been stress in the house. Has there been any changes lately, like moving etc.? The feathers will grow back and the bleeding has stopped. If there is infection the skin would appear inflamed and swollen. Keep your bird in a quiet place free from stress and she should be okay. If there is any signs of continued bleeding or infection seek your vet's help right away.

Thanks,

Dr. Chris
