Cat having problem with litterbox

My 7 year old cat has recently been leaving a small, dry piece of poop outside her litter box about once a week. She still uses her litter box which is in the kitchen, but I will find a "dingleberry," as I like to call them, in the dining room, hallway, or bedroom. It's almost like the piece of poop is still stuck to her after she leaves her box and falls off as she walks. She has never had a problem like this in the past. What could be causing this and how can it be stopped?

Hi,

Normally this happens due to long hair around the anus. You could try trimming the hair around the anus and this should solve the problem. Just be very careful not to cut or irritate the skin when you do this.

What you see is common in older long haired cats and not abnormal.
