Cat with loss of fur after climbing through window

cat with hair loss and skin inflammation

cat with hair loss and skin inflammation

My cat grazed the back of his neck trying to climb out of a window. over the next couple of days the bald patch got bigger and the skin started scabbing over. He's 8 months old and lives with his sister and we weren't sure whether she's making it worse when they playfight. today the scab has come off and its bleeding a little. should i take him to the vet or will it be ok left to dry up on its own?

Hi Sallie,

As long as the cat is not scratching at it, it should heal on its own if it stays clean. The skin scabbing over is a sign of healing. If the redness does not continue to go away over the next couple of days or your cat is always scratching at it then take your cat to the vet. The main thing is to be vigilant for signs of infection.
