Cat with possible fleas

my 18 month old cat has developed an area under his belly inbetween his back legs of red itchy lumps under the skin the area is inflamed and some scabs have formed. i recently had to treat him for fleas. what is causing this problem? he has been neutered. he hasnt gone off his food and appears to be in good health. he is an outdoor cat.

Just from the description it sounds like the fleas are back. The location of the lesions, the red bumps and scabs are a good reason to beleive the fleas are back. Talk to your vet about another round of treatment.
