CDC: 16 Fatal Dog Attacks This Year Alreadyby Dr. Chris July 23, 2010 The Centers for Disease Control recently released data showing that in the first six months of this year there have been 16 fatal dog attacks. Of the 16 fatal dog attacks 14 of them were caused by family dogs.The CDC also goes on to show data that 800,000 Americans need medical attention every year from dog bite injuries. Sadly over half of the victims are below the age of nine, and most of these children are attacked by their own family dogs. More Dog Control Laws Being PassedTo deal with this increasing number of dog bites and fatal dog attacks more states and cities are passing dangerous dog laws. Most of these laws tend to target certain dog breeds that some people believe have an increased chance of harming people. Dogs Fault or Owner's Fault?This discussion usually turns to whether dog breed profiling is the right thing to do. In most of these cases, a lack of proper dog training and socialization usually appears to be the cause of many of these dog attacks, as well as leaving young children alone with dogs with no parental supervision.
