AKC Group: Toy Group The Chihuahua dog is the tiniest breed and is named after the region of Chihuahua in Mexico. They are known for their restless character and diminutive look. Small, but tend to act much bigger then they are. HistoryThe Chihuahua's background is a complicated one, because there are numerous hypotheses surrounding their legitimate source. The Chihuahua was utilized in holy rituals when they were regarded as holy to pre-Columbian Indians. The breed takes in its identity from Mexican State of Chihuahua, in which the very first examples of the canine were found. Today they are often seen being carried on arms of celebrities. Physical FeaturesThe Chihuahua is a small toy type of dog. The body is lengthier than the height. The head is properly curved apple in form and the snout is pointed and short which has a nicely outlined shape. Puppies possess a smooth spot at the top of the skull known as a "molera", which often shuts by adulthood. The big, circular eyes are fixed nicely apart and ruby, dark, and could be brighter in white dogs. The upright ears are big. Dewclaws could be removed. The tail is lengthy, sickle-formed, either curled on the side or on the back. The coat arrives in both flat, long or wavy coat and short coat. All shades, both sturdy marked or filled are recognized. Colors include, but aren't restricted to, black, chestnut, fawn, white, sable, sand, steel blue, silver, party-color and black & tan. PersonalityThe Chihuahua is a great partner dog. Brave, very vibrant, adventurous and proud, they love closeness. Fearless, happy and agile. Chihuahua's could be tough willed with no adequate human management. They're faithful and become emotionally involved with their masters. Some love to lick their master's faces. Common Health ProblemsSusceptible to colds, gum problems, rheumatism, and stifle problems. Also secondary glaucoma and corneal dryness, due to their protruding eyes. Gains weight very easily. Take warning around poisonous products like fertilizer or chocolate. Prone to bone injuries and other mishaps in puppyhood. Several Chihuahuas possess a molera, an unclosed portion of the skull that may stay open all through life.
