Comfortis: flea protection in a chewable tabletby Dr. Chris April 17, 2009: Comfortis, which is made by Lilly is designed to be a month long flea protection medication which you can give orally, which is different from Frontline Plus which needs to be given topically. The claimed benefits of this medication is that it starts to kill fleas in 30 minutes, and kills all fleas in less than 4 hours. You can only get this with a prescription from your vet, unlike Frontline which you can get without a prescription. Active Ingredient: Spinosad Dosage: 13.5 to 27.3 mg/lb (30-60 mg/kg). It comes in 5 tablet sizes. It is designed for dogs over the age of 14 weeks. The makers say to use Comfortis with caution in pregnant dogs and dogs with epilepsy. Common side effects were vomiting, decreased appetite, and lethargy.
