Consistency
by Dawn
Choose one vet to use consistently (and a back-up/emergency vet) - that way you don't have to re-establish as a new patient (often more costly office visit). If your pet has a minor chronic condition some vets will allow call-in for maintenance meds, saving you the office visit & hassle of bringing your pet in. (A good vet will only do this for well established patients & generally will insist on seeing the pet if the 1st round of meds doesn't resolve the issue.) Lastly, request a copy of all pet records at each visit(including test results, etc) and keep them in a folder - if you have an emergency & must use another vet you may be able to avoid repeating some tests, besides it is just a good idea to be able to provide your pets entire medical history to a new vet, it could be the difference in a diagnosis!
