AKC Group: Working Group The Doberman Pinscher is an easily recognized dog that many thing as very aggressive. But "Dobies" can be trained to be great family dogs. These dogs are very intelligent and can be used for many different purposes. HistoryThe first Doberman to score a perfect score of 300 in Schutzhund was Bingo von Ellendonk. This breed was created by Herr Doberman in Germany Apolda in 1890. Even though Herr Doberman didn't keep everything written down on the development of Doberman, it could be seen in the temperament and appearance which dog breeds were likely utilized to generate this crossbreed dog. The German Pinscher's aggressiveness and alertness, and the Rottweiler's intelligence and massiveness could be seen. Physical FeaturesDoberman's are energetic, lively and sleek while keeping the characteristics of being alert and intelligent. They're a breed of moderate size with rough, short, smooth hair with a dense coat. They are available in 4 primary colors; blue, black, fawn and red, with corrosion white markings on eyes, fore chest, muzzle, paws and throat. They possess a rectangular body with strong muscles that provide the Doberman's endurance and speed to be effective as guard dogs and police dogs. The standard size is favored by owners. The larger sizes are preferred by people who want guard dogs or police force dogs. Adults can weigh between 60 to 100 pounds and stand 24 to 28 inches tall. PersonalityThey can and have been trained to be detective dogs, police dogs and assist the disabled. Be positive with reinforcement and praise. Very affectionate and returns affection. Playful and active with people playing active games. Obviously an excellent watchdog; very alerting during uncomfortable situations. Common Health ProblemsDogs this size will have health issues: Hip dysplasia, Cardiomyopathy, Cervical Vertebral instability, Von Willebrand's disease (bleeding disorder), Prostate disease, Hyperthyroidism.
