Dog Breeder Files $5M Federal Lawsuitby Dr. Chris
September 9, 2010 the Humane Society of the United States is among several defendants named in a $5 million federal lawsuit filed by a South Dakota dog breeder who claims that his dogs were illegally seized during a raid last fall. According to Dan Christensen, of Hurley, South Dakota, the seizures of his animals has caused him great emotional to stress, a huge loss in financial income, and the closure of his business. All of the charges that had been brought against Christensen in an alleged dog abuse case were dropped, and the judge had ordered that the dogs that were illegally seized by the HSUS and Second Chance Rescue Center of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, be returned to Christensen who is the rightful owner. During the raid that happened last September, HSUS helped Second Chance Rescue illegally seize 173 dogs that they claim were being mistreated on his property. Christensen was then charged with over 170 misdemeanor counts of inhumane treatment of animals. But the judge found Christian innocent of all charges.
