Dog Poop Used to Power Park Lightsby Dr. Chris
September 16, 2010 In Cambridge Massachusetts, local artist Matthew Mazzotta, is using dog's poop to fuel a methane digester. The methane produced will be burnt as a fuel to power park lamps. The project is called Project Parks Spark. MIT is funding the project which centers around using a methane digester. It is a special device that converts dog poop into methane. All dog owners have to do is drop their dog's waste inside the digester. Then special bacteria inside the device will break the dog feces down and produce methane gas. The methane gas produced from the dog poop can then be used to power lights in the park. In the future Matthew Mazzotta wants to install these special methane digester's in parks throughout the nation.
