Dog Vitamins Infected with Salmonella Recalledby Dr. Chris
Pro-Pet Adult Daily Vitamin
Friday, June 24, 2010. A dog vitamin that is sold nationwide by Pro-Pet is involved in a voluntary recall because some of the bottles may be contaminated with salmonella. According to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the United Pet Group issued a voluntary recall of its Pro-Pet Adult Daily Vitamin tablets because they might possibly be contaminated with salmonella. The Pro-Pet Adult Daily Vitamin tablets come in 100 count white plastic bottles and have a light blue label. The UPC code is 26851- 01800. All the bottles are being removed from stores, but if you own have already bought a bottle, stop feeding it to your pet. The bottles that might be affected are those that have expiration dates on or before June 2013. Even though only one lot of dog vitamins were shown to be contaminated, the company has decided to recall all bottles of vitamins. Salmonella infections in dogs usually results in diarrhea, fever, lethargy, and vomiting. Dogs may also have a fever and abdominal pain. If your pet is sick and showing any of these clinical signs, you should contact your veterinarian immediately. If you have questions on the recall you can call the United Pet Group at 1-800-645-5154 ext. 3.
