Dogs Can Still Be Deadly

by Dr. Chris

August 24th 2009 Last week a couple was kill by a pack of dogs in rural Georgia. It is believed that the wife was taking an evening walk and a pack of dogs attacked and killed her. Then her husband went looking for her and he was killed by the same pack of dogs. All the dogs believed to have been involved in the attack were killed.

This is a sad reminder that just because dogs have been domesticated for thousands of years, they still poses a strong predatory instinct that can be brought out at any time.

According to the CDC there are more than 4.5 million dog bites every year and that half of those involve children.

Also so far this year dogs have killed more people (about 20) than have lighting attacks.

The CDC also says that people who have two or more dogs in their homes are 5 times more likely to get bitten than people.

So what does this mean?

Talk to your children about always respecting dogs and how to properly play with them since odds are they are the ones to get bitten.

If you do encounter a dog you think is dangerous it is recommended by most experts to not make eye contact and stay still.

Running away will only further provoke a dog's predatory instincts.
