Eating Dog Meat Dangerous to Your Healthby Dr. Chris August 2, 2010 Many countries around the world consume dog meat, but as one Filipino Veterinarian has pointed out, it can be very dangerous for your health. Dr. Brigit Piok, who is a city veterinarian for Baguio City, in the Philippines says dog meat should be avoided because it is not inspected or controlled like other meats. It can also contain many zoonotic parasites and other diseases as well. A traditional belief in the area claims that dog meat helps to warm the body on a cold day. There is a ban on the selling of dog meat nationwide, but many meat vendors sell dog meat openly in markets. However it is legal to butcher dogs and sell them to neighbors for use in indigenous rituals like the "daw-es" which is a cleansing ritual.
