English Springer Spaniel Dog
AKC Group: Sporting Group The English Springer Spaniel have been rendered with enthusiasm, style, and a "wanting to please" quality typical to most spaniels. He's identified for his persistence to carry on the hunt even under difficult weather conditions. HistoryCocker Spaniels and English Springer Spaniels were first born from the same litters; small "Cockers" sought after woodcock whilst the bigger littermates were used to purge, or "spring," game. The Kennel Club of England in 1902 regarded the English springer spaniel as unique breed. Springer Spaniel became better yet identified in North America after 1924, when the English Springer Spaniel Field Trial Association was created and field tests were began the very first time. Physical FeaturesThe English springer spaniel is a moderate-sized dog, having a docked tail and a small body. His coat is somewhat lengthy, with feathering on his brisket, chest, ears and legs. His ears, gentle peaceful appearance, tough build and pleasant wagging tail says him obviously a part of a proud tradition of Spaniels. Normally about 20 inches in height and weighing about 40 to 50 pounds. The dog is excessively short in body for the size of the legs. Coat colors include black or liver with white markings, blue or liver roan, or tricolor; black and white or liver and white with tan marks. PersonalityEnglish Springer's are even-tempered, friendly, gentle, and sociable dogs which make excellent child friends. Skillful, intelligent, obedient and willing, and a fast learner. Brave, cheerful, energetic, playful and pleasant, their tails are apparently forever in motion. They are passionate, good natured and genuine, this dog loves everybody. Common Health ProblemsSeveral English Springer Spaniels are susceptible to hip dysplasia, progressive retinal atrophy, and epilepsy. Prone to obesity, be sure not to overfeed.
