Female Cat In Heat & Bleeding More then Usual

My cat is female and 6 years old. She is not fixed and has gone through several heat cycles every year without much incident, until now where she seems to be bleeding a fair amount. I have noticed a couple of droplets through the years but nothing like this. She is scheduled to get spayed in October and I was wondering if I have anything to be concerned about? The vet's office is saying that sometimes cats do that.
