Female Lab hardly using back legs

by Diane
(Fleming, Oh.)

8 yr. old F Lab won't hardly use her back legs. She does this scooting thing Instead of walking on all fours. She can walk on all four, but the back leg movement is very short and choppy. She is also being reluctant at lying down. Drooling slightly, and very short rapid breathing. ( I think from the extreme pain she must be in.) What, if anything can I give her to help with the pain until can get her to the vet on Monday?

Disc problem
by: Clint

It sounds like your dog might have a disc problem in the back. I would take your dog to the vet right away and not wait.

Aspirin can be given to dogs to help with pain. 5 and 15mg/lb every 12 hours is a dose for dogs for aspirin. Be careful because like in humans aspirin can cause GI bleeding and kidney problems.
