Food Stamps for Dogs Denied by Judgeby Dr. Chris April 12, 2010 This week an appeals court in Pennsylvania ruled against a man that was trying to get welfare benefits for his dog. This ruling upheld a previous ruling by that state's welfare agency. James Douris, 55, a disabled and unemployed veteran was trying to get support for his service dog. Mr Douris lives alone and needs the dog to pull his wheelchair and fetch items. He argued that since the dog was working that he should be considered a dependent member. Should service dogs get welfare benefits too?I don't think they should. If people need assistance for their dogs, there are several places to go for help, like the local humane societies.
