Important Dog Care Issues to Think About

Proper dog care is very important to keeping your dog healthy and letting them live the best life possible. Whether you are training a dog, grooming a dog, or walking a dog, here is some dog care advice for you.

Dog Proofing Your House

One of the first things you can do to properly care for your new dog is to dog proof your house. This is very simple to do but can prevent accidents. In order to dog proof your home, make sure cabinet doors that contain chemicals are closed, and electrical cords are hidden along baseboards to hide them.

Spay or Neuter?

Another important aspect of dog care is choosing to have your dogs spayed or neutered. With female dogs, they have a much lower risk of mammary cancer if you spay them before their first heat. Even male dogs can benefit from neutering which can lead to better prostate health for them.

Dog Biting

Each year, millions and millions of dog bites happen, and up to 24% of these people, or 4.5 million people need medical attention for their wounds. And also most children that are bitten by a dog, are bitten by the family dog.

You need to take some time and teach your children how to properly behave around the dog and how to treat them with respect and care.

Dog Training

There are many different dog training techniques out there, but your dog should at least know some basic obedience commands in order to behave properly in and outside of the home.

Whether you choose to do more advanced training techniques like clicker training, or follow the teaching techniques of the celebrity dog trainers, it is important that you consistently train your dog.

Dog Grooming

Many people over complicate dog grooming, and end up bathing their dogs far too often. Most dog should only be bathed once a month at the most. Over bathing dogs can lead to dry skin and to skin infections.

In summary, these dog care issues need to be addressed one by one by you and your entire family. Raising a dog can be great fun, but it also brings with it and a lot of responsibilities.
