The Kerry Blue Terrier dog, originally from Ireland are actually born black. But by 18 months of age, the color should fade to a deep slate gray blue. Designed for hunting small game, today these dogs make great family pets.

History

A local of County Kerry in Ireland, this breed was utilized as an all-round utility and working terrier, in charge of hunting birds and small game, rescuing from water and land, and herding cattle and sheep.

It is believed that the peasantry of Ireland formulated the Kerry being a solution to the nobility utilizing Irish Wolfhounds. This breed was utilized to support the peasantry to quietly hunt the commendable hunting field.

Physical Features

The standard Kerry blue terrier must be upstanding, well knit, as well as in good balance, displaying a well-developed and toned body with certain terrier character and style all throughout. Proper coat and color are significant for scoring.

Personality

Caring with family, they love to be with their masters. Attentive, motivated and rowdy, they like roughhousing. These breeds are smart and can be trained to do tricks.

Common Health Problems

Normally, this is a quite healthy long-lived dog. However some are susceptible to cerebellar abiotrophy, Hip Dysplasia, PNA. Several minor issues are cataracts, CHD, hair follicle tumors, entropion, narrow palpebral fissure distichiasisme, KCS, and spiculosis. Retinal folds sometimes seen.
