Komondor Dog Breed Profileby Luke Blaise AKC Group: Working Group The Komondor dog is a sheep guarding dog from Hungary. Its coat of corded white hair makes it look like a mop. A larger cousin to the smaller, Puli dog, who has a corded black coat. HistoryThe Komondor breed originated in Hungary to protect huge herds of cattle and sheep on the flatlands. The Komondor is definitely a close descendant of the Aftscharka, that the Huns saw on the southern steppes after they passed through Russia. Instead of being utilized to locate flocks and herds, the breed generally accompanies the animals they're in control of to to defend them.Physical FeaturesHe's a big, buff dog with lots of substance and bone, coated with an uncommon, large cover of white cords. Dogs twenty seven and a half inches or more on the withers; bitches twenty five and a half inches or more on the withers. Dogs are about one hundred pounds or more, bitches, about eighty pounds or more at maturation, with a lot of substance and bone. While large dimension is essential, kind, personality, balance, mobility and ruggedness are of the ideal significance and no consideration being sacrificed for dimension on its own. The body is a bit lengthier compared to height on the withers. Color of the coat is white, however, not always the natural white of a blown coat. A bit of cream or buff shading is oftentimes noticed in puppies, but dies out with maturation. In the best specimen skin is gray. Pink skin isn't appealing but is satisfactory.PersonalityThe Komondor dog is known for its pride, power and bravery. The Komondor is usually serious and reserved with unfamiliar people but demonstrative with people he adores. Masters must be willing to give daily workout and behavior training. Taking care of the Komondor coat takes a large amount of effort and time, so it's better to learn to look after the cords from a skilled breeder or owner.Common Health ProblemsThey are susceptible to bloat, hip dysplasia and skin problems.Return to: Complete AKC Dog Breed List To read more blog posts go here: Veterinary Blog To sign up for my newsletter go here: Veterinary Newsletter Top 10 Things I Wish I'd Learned in Veterinary School FLAVORx Introduces Digital Flavorist Software |
