It is a strong, confident and friendly dog. While he's perfect for various living conditions including urban and rural settings, the Lakeland Terrier's pedigree makes him perfect for an energetic lifestyle. HistoryThe Lakeland Terrier is definitely an English dog back to the 1800's. Among the most ancient dwelling terrier dogs still known these days, these dogs were originally formulated by farmers to go along with them on hunts and also to stop fox and various vermin from ruining their lamb herds.Physical FeaturesThe Lakeland terrier was breed to search vermin in the tough shale hills of Lake Area of northern England. He's a little, workmanlike dog of sturdy, square build. His body's deep and fairly narrow, that allows him to press into rocky dens. He's got adequate length of leg under him to cover rough ground quickly.His neck is lengthy, leading gradually into high withers and also a short top line ending in a higher tail set. The best height of the older breed is 14 inches at the withers, with as many as a 1-half inch change direction allowable. Bitches may measure up to 1 inch lower than males. The body weight of the nicely balanced, mature male in show situations averages around seventeen pounds. The Lakeland terrier comes in many different colors that are equally tolerable. Solid shades include wheaten, red, liver, blue and black. In saddled dogs, the saddle lays over the rear of the neck, sides, back and over the top of the tail. PersonalityThe standard Lakeland terrier is vibrant and friendly. Not a shy dog at all, it loves to meet new people and dogs.
