Mini Schnauzer With Possible Seizurs and Chronic Ear Discharge

by Elaine
(Moose Jaw, Sk. Canada)

My miniature schnauzer has chronic ear discharge. It looks like brick coloured mud and she is extremely itchy. I clean and pluck her ear canals every 2 weeks. Recently she has had a very odd behaviour, she is acting like she is spooked, running in circles and it's like she's afraid of something. She came and nestled up to me and I cuddled her with my arms and she began to shutter all over her body. Almost like a seizue but not quite, she had no loss of conciousness and she recovered very quickly with no residual effects. Can you tell me what might be wrong?

Sorry to hear about this incident, but I don't think it was a seizure and was likely a one time thing.

Many Miniature Schnauzers have chronic ear discharge. This could cause neurological problems only if the inner ear was infected, which is rare.

While it is always best to have a vet exam done, you should at least write down all the details of the incident you can remember in case it happens again.

What did your dog eat, medications, etc.
