Miniature Bull Terrier Dog Breed Profile

The Miniature Bull Terrier dog is simply a shorter version of the Bull Terrier. Originally intended to fight bulls, today, they actually make great family pets. With its distinctive egg shaped head, it is sure to stand out.

History

When developed in early part of the 19th century from crossing a Bulldog with a White English Terrier, Bull Terriers were small. But breeders decided that the Bull Terrier was not large enough, so they included some Spanish Pointer in the breed. Due to range in dimensions that resulted, breeders started to split the Bull Terriers into groupings: Miniature (midsize), and Standard (the biggest).

Physical Features

The Miniature Bull Terrier is a firmly built, buff dog. Height ten inches to fourteen inches. Body is well round with a strong short back. Head is strong and long, oblong looking in form, almost flat on the top, sloping equally right down to the nose without any stop.

The eyes are small, almond-shaped and dark in color deep-set. The ears are close together, small and thin. The long neck is extremely carved, with strong shoulders. The tail placed low and on short side maintained flat. The coat is harsh, flat, short and dense to the touch.

Personality

Brave, scrappy, fun-loving, energetic, fearless and clownish. This breed is a loyal, obedient and polite dog. They grow to be very attached with their masters. The Miniature Bull Terrier loves firm, constant leadership and closeness and constitutes a great family pet.

Common Health Problems

At risk of slipped patella, heart defects, kidney failure and flea and skin allergies. Prone to be affected by a zinc deficiency, which could cause death. Gains weight easily. Don't overfeed. White Bull Terriers are susceptible to deafness.
