Miniature Pinscher Dog Breed Profileby Luke Blaise AKC Group: Toy Group The Miniature Pinscher dog resembles a Doberman Pinscher, and is known as the "King of the Toys." Originally from Germany, the "Min Pin" is very active and has a "big dog" personality. Its small size makes it great for apartment dwellers. History"Pinscher" implies "Terrier" in German, and this Miniature Pinscher is a clearly German breed that originated centuries ago to be an effective farm ratter. The Miniature Pinscher is said to have Italian Greyhound and Dachshund among its forefathers, combined with a shorthaired German Pinscher. This breed appears like a small Doberman, probably because both the Doberman and Miniature Pinscher were produced from the German Pinscher.Physical FeaturesThe Miniature Pinscher is built as a properly balanced, durable, small, smooth-coated, short-coupled dog. Ten inches to twelve and a half inches tall allowed, with a preferred height between eleven inches to eleven and a half inches calculated at shoulder height. The coat is hard, lustrous, short, smooth and straight, closely sticking with and evenly protecting the body. Solid, clear red. Black with greatly defined rust-red spots on throat, lower jaw, lips, cheeks, and twin spots over chest and eyes, low half of forelegs, inside hind legs and vent area, lower part of feet and hocks. Black pencil lines on toes. Chocolate brown with rust-red markings exactly like specific for blacks, other than brown pencil lines on toes. In stag red and solid red a rich lively medium to dark color is favored. PersonalityThe Min Pin is a hardy small fellow, who is courageous and proud. They're faithful to their masters, alert and spirited, with high energy. Smart, brave and lively. Typically good with other animals and kids as long as the humans give correct leadership to the dog.Their actions depend solely on how you deal with the dog. Fearless movement, full self-possession, and spirited existence. They'll become headstrong, demanding and will start to bark more than you want. If you permit this, the Min Pin could become a tyrant. Common Health ProblemsThe Miniature Pinscher is generally healthy and suffers from few health problems.Return to: Complete AKC Dog Breed List To read more blog posts go here: Veterinary Blog To sign up for my newsletter go here: Veterinary Newsletter Top 10 Things I Wish I'd Learned in Veterinary School FLAVORx Introduces Digital Flavorist Software |
