Mongrel

by Dana Bellwether
(Petaluma, CA/USA)

I've studied animal science and genetics at Texas A&M University, and I know that hybrid vigor is the best option for any species. Our animal nutrition professor used to laugh about the Texan men who, as soon as they started making a fair amount of money, would buy a herd of cattle and then boast that it was "all PUREBRED Angus" or whatever breed. I ardently hope that, now that cats are at least as popular at dogs, we won't get a rash of cat breeders inflicting genetic deformities on cats as dog breeders have done to dogs for centuries.
