Motel 6 Room Disaster - 28 Cats Rescuedby Dr. Chris
Motel 6
June 19, 2010 At a Motel 6, in Columbia Missouri, authorities were called in and seized a number of cats after being alerted by someone complaining of a strong urine smell. When officials did enter the Motel 6 room 328, they found 28 cats. The floor was covered with cat litter, feces and urine, and there were also four dead kittens in the room's freezer. The smell in the air was reported to be awful and had a horrible stench. Apparently a 52-year-old woman, who has been renting the room since last March was hoarding cats. Also in March, the woman received a summons for violating a Columbia ordinance that limits people to owning only four dogs or cats older than six months of age. The woman, Susan Kohler, has a preliminary hearing on June 25th were she will face charges of having too many cats, animal abuse, and unsanitary living conditions. According to the Columbia Tribune, Motel 6 employees refused to give comment, however they did say that they evicted the lady and were working on cleaning the room. The Central Missouri Humane Society is the organization responsible for rescuing the cats.
