This is a favorite breed of Queen Elizabeth the II. HistoryThe breed is considered ancient. It can be traced back to 1107 A.D. Immigrants to Wales at that time brought dogs with them. Eventually they were used to herd domesticated farm animals.It is believed that Queen Elizabeth II owns 16 Pembroke Welsh Corgi dogs. Physical FeaturesThis breed is a distinct dog from the Cardigan Corgi, holding a shorter body and lighter, straighter boned legs. The ears are pointed at the tip.The coat could be black, awn, red, sable, and tan without or with white markings. Height must be ten to twelve inches. The weight should not be over thirty pounds. PersonalityThe Pembroke Welsh Corgi is very clever, loyal, willing and able to please their masters. Corgis are really active and are great with kids providing that the dog views humans as greater than him in the pack order. Sturdy and protective, they make great guards.Common Health ProblemsSusceptible to back disorders, glaucoma and PRA. Gains weight quickly.
