Pet Airways, A New Airline Just For Pets
by Dr. Chris
July 20th, 2009 Want your pet to travel more comfortably the next time you fly? Well a new airline is available just for cats and dogs. It was founded by a couple, Dan Wiesel and Alysa Binder. It had its first flight this last Tuesday.
There are no passengers, only pets, called pawsengers. To travel they place the pets in specially stacked carriers. Their planes can hold about 50 cages.
This helps to avoid having pets stay in cargo areas of airports which are notoriously bad for pets, so bad that the USDA regulates how long a pet can stay there for, the temperature, and the size of the crate.
The airline is sold out for the first two months!
They only serve Baltimore, New York, Chicago, Denver, and Los Angeles.
The average price is only about $250. (other airlines charge between $75 to $275)
This looks like a great alternative, but it seems like it might hard to drop your pet off at the airport and get yourself to your plane on time as well.
I guess we'll see if this concept works. So far it looks like good business for Pet Airways.
