Pet Costs Rise over $2 Billion

According to the American Pet Products Association, total U.S. pet expenditures will reach over $50.8 billion this year. That's a $2 billion increase from 2010 when the amount spent on pets was $48.35 billion dollars.
The
American Pet Products Association yearly survey gives us yearly trend numbers and statistics. This year 62% of households own pets.
And of course the number will one popular pet is the dog, followed closely by the cat.
Estimated 2011 Sales:
Pet Food $19 billion
Supplies and medicine $11 billion
Veterinary care $14 billion
Live animal purchases $2 billion
Grooming and boarding $3.5 billion
Average Basic Annual Expenses for a dog or cat:
Veterinary care $650
Food $237
Boarding $220
Vitamins $65
Travel expenses $63
Grooming $53
Treats $55
Toys $32
