Can make a great family dog, but not for small children. HistoryThe breed's name originated from the historic district of Pomerania (now today's Poland and Germany). Originally weighing almost thirty pounds, the breed was capable of herding larger sheep. They were not well recognized until 1870, in the event the Kennel Club (England) acknowledged the so-called Spitz dog. In 1888, Queen Victoria fell deeply in love with a Pomeranian in Italy, and delivered the specimen returning to England, impacting on its popularity significantly. It still remains of the the most popular dog breeds.Physical FeaturesThe dog is an active, compact, short-backed toy dog.
