Probiotics For Dogs

January 2, 2008 Probiotics have long been a popular supplement for people. Probiotics are touted as improving gastrointestinal health and improving the immune system. So what about using them in dogs?
What are probiotics:
Probiotics are beneficial living microorganisms, most commonly bacteria given orally in order to improve gastrointestinal health.
Benefits of Probiotics for Dog:
Some studies has shown that probiotics lessen the length of illnesses like diarrhea.
Another benefit is during antibiotic therapy. Antibiotics are only supposed to kill bad bacteria, but sometimes, it kills good bacteria as well. Probiotics can help replace the good bacteria.
Giving Dogs Yogurt:
Some people give their dogs yogurt, claiming to see improvements in their health. But remember not all yogurts contain active living bacteria, and the most common bacteria found in yogurt are not found in the dog's intestinal tract.
