Red Heeler-Dog behavior
by Angela
(S.C.)
I have a 4 month old Red heeler puppy, do you have any suggestions on how to stop her from biting when we play?
Hi Angela,
I don't usually deal with behavioral problems but it is normal for some kittens and puppies to bite during play because they have not learned how to play properly and guard their teeth.
I think the term behaviorist use it bite inhibition. There are many good dog training books out there, but normally puppies and kittens go through a learning period when they learn how much pressure is enough, and you can help by using positive and negative reinforcement when your puppy bites you.
Thanks,
Dr. Chris
