Rough Collie with Swollen Face from Allergic Reaction

My friend also has a collie and her dog is having an allergic reaction. It's muzzle and neck are swollen and yet squishy. He does not seem to be itchy. The vet tried steroids and Benadryl, which is helping, but still is swollen and squishy.
Any ideas?

What area of the country do you live in? It could be allergies.

Have you talked about food allergies? Did your dog eat something new?

My rough coated collie is experiencing the same symptoms you described. Yesterday we took him to the vet and he was prescribed antibiotics and prednisone (25% strength in case of sensitivity). So far, no change. Last summer (Aug. 09) he had swelling over the left eye which became so extreme within three days that he required surgical drainage. This time, it started with the eyelid again but became more diffuse, spreading to the left side and middle of his muzzle as well as progressing down to his neck. He itches but that is normal for him. We haven't tried Benadryl yet.
Is this allergies or could it be fungal?
