HistoryKnown for hundreds of years as the Highland Deerhound, Rough Greyhound or the Scotch Greyhound, the Scottish Deerhound became an easily recognized breed in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. He was the very best breed to utilize on the chase for deer, and during the time, can be owned by nobody of rank less than an earl. These ownership rules almost resulted in the breed's extinction.Physical FeaturesThe Irish Deerhound's body's hair and neck is wiry and harsh, since the coat at the head, belly and breast is significantly softer. Common Health ProblemsThe life span of the Irish Deerhound is about 8 to 11 years, and there are many of health issues to check on this breed. This includes bloat, bone cancer, OCD, heart disease, and sensitivity to drugs and chemicals.
