Shiba Inu Dog Breed Profile

by Luke Blaise

AKC Group: Non-Sporting Group

The Shiba Inu dog is the tiniest of local breeds from Japan. The Shiba was actually produced for searching in the thick undergrowth of Japan's tremendous mountain areas. Agile and alert with keen feelings, he's also a great companion and watchdog.

Originated from the old fashioned breeds of the historic folks of Japan, this dog was bred to hunt small game. In Japan, the name Shiba implies brushwood.

World War II almost spelled devastation for Shiba Inu because of bombings and raids. However after the battle; bloodlines were merged to generate the dog as it is famous these days.

Physical Features

The Shiba Inu is well-developed and his body are compact. Females and males are clearly different in features: males are strong with no thickness. Females are elegant with no structure of weakness.

The male's size varies from fourteen and a half inches to sixteen and a half inches at withers. The female's varies from thirteen and a half inches to fifteen and a half inches. Typical weight at desired size is about twenty three pounds for males, seventeen pounds for females.

The Shiba Inu has a good nature, spirited boldness, and an unchanged forthrightness. The Shiba possesses an independent nature that could be reserved with strangers but is affectionate and loyal to people who gain his respect.

Common Health Problems

The Shiba Inu dog is identified as a strong, healthy little dog. Nevertheless, some genetic disorders have been discovered in the dog. One of the most devastating and prevalent disorder is Patellar Luxation. Hip dysplasia is as well seen astonishingly frequently in the Shiba, taking into account the breed's small size. Genetic eye issues are typical among some breeds, like the Shiba. The most typical eye deficiency is cataracts, previously called juvenile cataracts. One other issue, and the most typical for Shiba dog, is allergies, like flea allergies and also inhalant and food allergies.
