Some Dog Trainers Say To Avoid Giving Treats During Training
by Dr. Chris
February 12, 2009 Many dog owners get confused on whether or not it is alright to give treats as rewards during the training of their dogs. I say that it is alright to give your dog treats and here is why.
Used in an appropriate manner treats are a great way to use positive reinforcement to train your dog.
Many dogs will work harder for a treat than they will for positive attention from you so by taking advantage of this you can make training more productive.
The dangers of giving treats during training is obesity. But as long as you do not over do it on the treats then you can get away with this.
Also by making your dog work for food there is more natural stimulation.
In the wild dogs have to work very hard to get food and all that exercise keeps them in shape physically.
This also helps to keep them mentally sharp as well.
How much intelligence does it take to go up to the same food bowl everyday, in the same place, and eat the same food?
