October 11, 2010 This week is National Veterinary Technician Week. It is a week set aside to honor all the vet techs who help veterinarians and pet owners. Many people are not clear on all of the tasks that vet techs do every day. Here's a list of just 10 of the hundreds of tasks that veterinary technicians do. If you need some ideas celebrating this week check out: a Veterinary Technician Week. 1. Place intravenous catheters: Intravenous catheters are needed so fluids can be given to sick pets. 2. Take x-rays: X-rays need to taken for pets who have broken bones. 3. Educate pet owners: Vet techs can give new pet owners lots of valuable advice on raising a pet. 4. Perform dental cleanings: They clean your pet's teeth. 5. Assist with surgery: They help veterinarians with surgeries like spays and neuters. 6. Collect laboratory samples: Blood samples are collected from sick pets to help determine why they are sick. 7. Manage veterinary staff: Vet techs help to manage the veterinary assistants and receptionists. 8. Give vaccinations: They give vaccinations that are needed to help prevent your pet from getting sick. 9. Give nutrition tips: They know all the special pet food formulations and which pet food is best for your pet. 10. Give behavior training tips: They are great helping pet owners deal with difficult pet dog and cat behavior problems.
