Top 10 Dog and Cat Names of 2009

Recently VPI Insurance, which is the nation's largest pet insurer, revealed the most popular pet names of 2009.

In order to make this list they went through their records of over 475,000 pets that they insure.

In their press release VPI noted that the name Max has ruled the number one spot for six years in a row now, but was finally beat out by the name Bella, by only about 400 dogs.

One of the possible reasons for Max losing the number one position after all of these years is that Bella, is a very popular name of the heroine in the vampire series Twilight New Moon.

For the dog names, the same 10 names appeared last year as well with the positioning only changing a little fit.

In the cat list there is more of a mixing of the positions with Tigger dropping four spots, while Bella jumped up five spots all the way to number three.

On the cat list, Angel was a new name which bumped off Charlie from last year's list.
