Video: Chinese Dyeing Dogs to Resemble Tigersby Dr. Chris September 5, 2010 The latest pet craze coming out of China is dyeing dogs to look like tigers, pandas, and ninja turtles. With Chinese consumers having increasing time and money to spend, more and more are spending it on their pets. Many pet salons in China offer dyeing services for dogs. Some of these processes, to make a dog appear as a Tiger, can take up to eight hours. Many of these dyes however are not very safe for pets. This is a very unregulated area, and most of the hair dyes and coloring products for pet hair are very new and has never even been tested. Chinese breeders will even go so far as to dye puppies in order to sell them at a higher price. In one instance a black and white kitten was dyed to appear like a Siamese cat. Unfortunately the cat became very ill and required expensive veterinary care. Most of the pet salons in Beijing however say that their dyes are safe animals. How to Dye a DogMany pet salons are using safer dyes like food coloring or kool-aid (unsweetened) to dye a dogs coat. Never use human hair dye on dogs.
